Plump, hydrated skin
I want to address one of the pillars of healthy skin. Hydration. If you’re visiting my page you may be considering your options for a hair and makeup artist and I’m so glad that you’re taking some time to read my thoughts on skin care.
To preface, I worked for Juice Beauty for 3 years while living in the San Francisco Bay Area. I was a brand manager for the territory and I loved that job dearly and it taught me so much about skin care, the importance of reading labels, clean ingredients, makeup application and so much more.
Humor me if you you will and do this extremely simple act of taking the back of your hand and touch your cheek. What do you feel? Is your skin moist to the touch? How is the texture? Does is feel smooth or rough like sand paper?
Now ask yourself what is your level of commitment to skin care? Your skin texture and moisture level directly correlates to this as well as how much water you intake.
Here are my suggestions to getting your skin more hydrated.
#1 Drink more water! Not soda, not coffee or juice.
You can add a hydration powder to give it more flavor, anything with hyaluronic helps to retain moisture in the body and can reduce fine lines.
#1 Try a hydration mask.
If you tend to be in the drier side try a hydration mask. A perfect bi weekly skin ritual. A cream mask will help to replenish moisture lost in the skin. Look for ingredients like olive squalane, antioxidants and plant based oils. If you want to take your hydration to the next level you could always wear cream mask and steam the skin over a bowl of warm water allowing the steam to rise to your face.
If you have dry skin you want to avoid clay based masks. Clay is great for combination/ oily skin but can take moisture from the skin. If you have a blemish you can always place a clay mask over just the problem area instead of the whole face.
#3 Don’t skip the serum.
Serums are potent targeted skin care in the bottle. I feel like there’s a stigma around them and don’t come for me because believe me, I’m a believer. I have heard women say, “I don’t need a serum I’m only 30”! My response was, “So what?” I’m a moisture pig and I will get as much moisture into my skin as possible. Let me get back in the subject though.
Now, when choosing a serum you may need some knowledge when approaching a serum. I have extremely sensitive skin so when I look for skin care I go the organic or natural sections in Ulta, Whole Foods, Earth Fare or Pharmaca. Mostly because the standard is already higher in regards to chemicals.
Now I prefer hyaluronic based serums, you get more benefits if there’s Vitamin C (cell regeneration), Antioxidants (detoxification/ anti aging), or soothing ingredients if you tend to have red, irritated skin.
Pair these with your moisturizer and monitor your skins progress. I’m assuming you moisturize every night. Right? I will go into moisturizer at another time since that is a whole subject on it’s own. Okay, I will say that they have a year shelf life after you open it so after a year toss it! Okay, I’m done.
